Freedom

I haven’t been writing or making much original content this week, and feel I have gotten little done.

Last Sunday one of my cats, Lion-O started showing signs that he was not feeling well.

By Monday afternoon became very ill.

I had to stop work for the day and take him to the emergency animal hospital.

The next morning I had to take him to another vet, over 30 minutes away.

Then pick him up that afternoon.

This is a process I repeated every day this week that is taking about 3 hours out of my day.

I am also having to hand feed him food and water while he recovers…

…as well as antibiotics which as you can see he is not fond of…

and all sorts of specialized care that I have to provide him.

I am glad to do all this because I want him to get better (though I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t getting frustrating).

What I have come to realize though is how grateful I am that I have the freedom, both time and financial to be able to take care of him.

If I were still working a traditional 9-5 right now I don’t know what I would have done.

Would have had to use vacation time, assuming my boss would permit it, or lose pay/time.

I wouldn’t be able to go home for hours at a time, or make the round trip every morning and afternoon to get him.

I definitely would not have been able to afford the care he has needed.

Its easy to lose sight of the advantages, benefits, and good fortune being a business owner brings us.

Some days it feels like it would be nice to walk in, get handed a slate of work, do a half assed job of it, get paid regardless.
Then go home and not think about it anymore.

No book keeping, marketing strategies, angry customers etc…
…but then something comes along that you have complete discretion on how to handle.

You are able to do what you need to do without having to get permission.

You are able to help your friend move, or go to your kids game/play, or attempt to nurse your sick cat back to health.
This sort of thing makes everything worth it.

I hope you are all able to exercise the same freedom in your lives, and if you can’t yet I hope you are working towards it.
