Today is Monday and for most people that means a fresh new task list and set of goal and objectives. (At least I hope it does). It is important to always keep moving forward, advancing, and making progress… …but its also important to look back and see how far you’ve come. We often get so caught up in the day to day of business and life that we don’t realize the effect of little choices we made in the past coming to fruition in the present.

This is important for a variety reason, but the main one being… motivation. If you feel like you aren’t making progress on something you may get discouraged and not give it your best effort, or even quit… that’s the dark side of ambition. I struggle with this myself.

Take Legiit for example… I have so much I want to do with it, and so many plans on where I want it to go that I sometimes get frustrated that it isn’t there yet, or that it is taking so much time to get there.

When I start thinking like that I head over to the Wayback Machine and look at the earliest snapshot of it (Oddly enough that’s not exactly what it looked like… the picture of the lady didn’t show up until later) I also like to compare where Fiverr was at the same point in its evolution.

When I look at that I realize how much further ahead of the curve we are compared to where they were.

Another great resource, if you have been on Facebook a long time and post regularly is the “On this day” function. Its where I find gems like this…

You can also keep a journal if you prefer to keep things private.

The point I am trying to make here is this.

What you can measure, you can optimize and improve. Track your progress. Use it to motivate yourself. Use it to optimize your current plans and choices. Think about what future you will think of what current you is doing and try to make that something future you will be proud of. Do you track your progress? Look back on how far you’ve come?

I’d like everyone to do this exercise: Pick an area of your life that you are unsatisfied with.

Think where you were at in your journey towards that goal say, 5 years ago. Decide if 5 years ago you would be satisfied with where you are. If the answer is yes… then appreciate how far you’ve come, then get back to work so 5 years from now you will be happy as well. If the answer is no… forgive yourself, then get back to work so 5 years from now you will be happy with current you.

If you want to Profiit in life you need to know where you came from, where you are, and where you want to go.

Please share your story in the Profiit Academy Facebook group.

Talk to you tomorrow.

Best,
CMW
